Lab Section
The Lab Section supports the direct services provided by members of the Berkeley Free Clinic through careful examination and testing of client samples.
The Lab Section, formally a subsection of the Medical Section, offers clients basic clinical laboratory tests to deliver expedient results the same night of their appointment. We are not a research or academic lab and have no client interaction, but we do provide a variety of services including:
Urinanalysis (dipstick and sediment)
Gram stains
KOH digestions
Saline wet mount analysis
Rapid pregnancy testing
Rapid HIV testing
We operate on the same nights as the General Medical clinic (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings) and Saturdays with the Saturday Services Section.
Prospective Lab Volunteers Looking to Apply
Applications are currently closed.
No prior experience with performing laboratory tests is required. However, volunteers are expected to have a willingness to learn and genuine interest in the clinic’s philosophy towards client-centered care. New volunteers will be trained on basic microscopy, biosafety protocols, and fundamentals in conducting clinical laboratory tests. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, so anyone is encouraged to apply!
